Hello all! I wanted to let you know about a resource that has helped us out a lot. A couple of months ago I stumbled upon a group called Family to Family Network. They assist kids with all kinds of special needs and their families. Their volunteers provide assistance with IEP's, student portfolios, parent training, summer camps and more. Occasionally, they host get togethers for member families. Recently, we went to a family fun day at the CyFair College community garden. The kids planted and harvested vegetables and did a craft.

The best part for us is their Family Friend volunteer program where they match up screened adult volunteers with families of special needs children who might need a special friend. We were matched with a retired lady (a former teacher) who comes by once a week to read to my son and look at stamps and coins. (He was diagnosed with ADHD in Nov. 2007.) She's only been with us for a couple of weeks but my son enjoys her visits. We look forward to seeing her every week. This is great for us because the kids don't have any grandparents or much extended family in the area. Our family friend isn't a babysitter but she does spend time with the kids and gives me a little break.

Most of their activities and volunteers have been in the West Houston area but they are expanding their services to cover the greater Houston metro area including Spring and the Woodlands. I highly recommend this group. For more info visit www.familytofamilynetwork.org.
